Daniel Smith

Overview

Daniel Smith serves as Chief Technology Officer at Achira as of January 2025[1][2]. Smith holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Computational Chemistry from Auburn University, earned between 2011 and 2015[10], and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the College of Charleston, completed between 2006 and 2010[11]. Smith completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Chemistry at Georgia Institute of Technology from January 2016 to March 2017[9]. Prior to the current role, Smith worked as Vice President, Head of Computation at Abiologics from October 2024 to January 2025[4], and as Senior Director, Head of Computation at the same organization from December 2022 to September 2024[5]. Smith co-founded Iambic Therapeutics and served as Director of Software from April 2020 to December 2022[6]. Smith also served as Software Scientist at The Molecular Sciences Software Institute from March 2017 to April 2020[8] and as Advisor to the Open Force Field Initiative from January 2019 to April 2020[7]. Smith joined the Board of the Open Molecular Software Foundation in October 2025[3].
