Flatiron Institute

The Flatiron Institute is an internal research division of the Simons Foundation launched in 2016, based in the Flatiron District of New York City [1]. The institute operates five computational science centers whose research spans machine learning, signal processing, computational vision and neural circuits [1]. Research is organized across centers including Computational Mathematics, Computational Astrophysics, Computational Quantum Physics and the Scientific Computing Core, with cross-cutting Machine Learning work [2]. The institute pursues a 'Foundation Models of Science' initiative whose goal is to accelerate versatile foundation models tailored for numerical datasets and scientific machine learning tasks [2]. The Flatiron Institute organizes the Flatiron Wide Autumn Meeting, the Flatiron Institute Seminar Series and the ML@FI Seminar Series [3].
