Quickwit

Overview

Quickwit is an open-source, cloud-native search engine for logs that organizations can deploy in their own cloud or on-premise environments [1]. Founded in 2020 [2], Quickwit launched its first version on July 13, 2021, built by three founders who first met in Paris in 2010 [6]. The engine runs directly on cloud object storage, written in Rust on the Tantivy library, and serves DevOps, data engineering and infrastructure teams [3]. Quickwit supports schemaless indexing, OpenTelemetry and Jaeger, multi-tenancy, retention policies and GDPR deletion, and deploys across single-node, multi-node, on-premise, Kubernetes or serverless configurations against S3, MinIO or Ceph [8]. Named users include Binance, Fly.io, PostHog, Rho, Stedi, Formal, Kalvad and Contentsquare [4]. Datadog announced its acquisition of Quickwit on January 9, 2025, with the Quickwit team moving on to build a new product with Datadog [5].

A customer testimonial on the Quickwit homepage says the engine "saved us up to 90% of our tracing telemetry costs" versus alternatives. [7]
