Humane Genomics

A platform to make artificial viruses as cancer therapeutics.[2]

Overview

Humane Genomics is a biotechnology company based at 180 Varick Street in New York City[6] that developed a platform to engineer cancer-killing viruses as therapeutic agents[2]. The company participated in Y Combinator's Summer 2021 batch[1] and operates with a team of five[4]. Humane Genomics has engineered a lytic RNA virus with selective infection and replication mechanisms designed to achieve an on-target to off-target kill ratio exceeding 1000[5]. The company is developing its first therapeutic application targeting pediatric liver cancer in collaboration with Texas Children's Hospital, with mouse model studies demonstrating safety and approximately 50 percent reduction in tumor volume[5].

Humane Genomics has developed a platform to engineer cancer killing viruses. We have taken a first principles approach to design and make oncolytic viral therapies. Using a highly lytic RNA virus engineered with "2 factor authentication" (using selective infection and selective replication) they have an on-target to off-target kill ratio > 1000. We are working on our first indication, pediatric liver cancer (hepatoblastoma), with our partners at Texas Children's Hospital, who are world leading experts. We have in vivo (mouse) data showing safety and currently developing efficacy data and are showing 50% reduction in tumor volume. [5]
